Laura Gommans
Laura Gommans is a film journalist and the host of Celebrating Cinema. Her TikTok and Instagram, where she talks about recent releases and the broader scope of film, are where a lot of cinephiles in the Netherlands first found her. The goal is to create a low bar for movie fans to dive deeper into films they otherwise might have overlooked. ‘She’s able to talk about the Brutalist as if it’s a Marvel movie’, a listener once said.
As part of her social media presence and her long career in publishing, Laura has had the opportunity to interview actors and filmmakers like Anne Hathaway, Olivia Colman, Danny Boyle, Alex Garland, and many others. She’s worked with clients like Netflix, HBO, Disney, Universal, and Warner Bros, moderates Q&A’s at premieres and film festivals, and does film introductions.
On the podcast she runs the rankings episodes, recent releases, or the bigger questions we have around our experience of film. She loves diving deeper into themes from her favorite genres like horror and sci-fi – really anything with practical effects and puppets. With her curiosity for what is currently keeping people talking when it comes to film, she is responsible for Celebrating Cinema’s most listened to episodes.
Her Letterboxd (linked above) is her personal diary filled with hot takes, one liners and a lot of so-bad-they’re-good logs.
If you are new to the show, the rankings episode on Wes Anderson is one to check out, or our episode on the history of vampires on screen.
